Free Recipes Recipe Valley is
a place to share your tried and true recipes. Whether they were handed down
from generation to generation in your family or perhaps your recipe
is a favorite contemporary family recipe. Family recipes are
generally made up of traditional foods that were geographically
available and/or plentiful. We
know them today as comfort foods. So, enjoy and cook up some recipes for
the holidays and those special times when families get together and
the foods conjure up comfort memories of days long past.
Skillet Stew was a favorite
around our house anytime of the year. A good cut of stew
meat is the key to making a great skillet stew.
Ingredients:
2 lbs. Quality Sirloin
Tips
4 strips of bacon cooked
and crumbled
2c. Beef Stock
1 medium onion chopped
3 carrots cleaned and
diced
1/2 cup diced celery
4 lg. red potatoes peeled
and diced
1 - medium size can
stewed tomatoes
1/2 - can tomato paste
2 Tablespoons flour
1/4c.Water
Salt & Pepper to taste
Directions:
Clean and cut all vegetables and
set aside.
Cook bacon strips until crispy. (I use the microwave and cover
with a paper towel)
Crumble and set bacon aside.
In a deep skillet brown sirloin tips in bacon drippings. If you
prefer a lower fat version use olive oil or margarine.
Add beef stock. Simmer on med-low for about 30 minutes.
Add all vegetables, tomatoes and tomato paste. Simmer
another 30 minutes or until vegetables are tender.
Mix flour and water together. Add to stew and heat until
thickened.
Add salt and Pepper to your taste. You may want to add
other seasonings if you like. Serve in a soup bowl and top
with bacon. Enjoy!
