German Potato Salad rating:

Ingredients:
  • 5 - lbs Salad potatoes (I like red ones)
  • 1/2 lb Bacon (fry/then break it up)
  • reserve the grease
  • 2-1/2 C. water
  • 1 C. Vinegar (I use white)
  • 1 C. Sugar
  • 1 tlb. Salt
  • 4 tlb. Flour (rounded tlb)
  • 1 large Onion chopped
  • some parsley
Directions:
Boil the potatoes/peel while warm/slice when cool Cook the chopped onion in some of the bacon grease. Add the flour to the bacon grease/stir till smooth. Add the water, vinegar, sugar, salt--then boil stirring till smooth and thickened. Pour over the sliced potatoes. stir in the bacon bits and top with the parsley. This is a large recipe, you may cut it in half. Also, adjust for your taste, you can use as little of the bacon grease as you want.

Herb Pork Chops

Susie L.

I come from a large family in Wisconsin. Where we had lots of great food at family reunions. This is one of my favorites, that reminds me of my aunt and the 4th of July reunions. I love to cook and try new dishes.
When entertaining, we often think of family get togethers, picnics, or meeting at one of the families patriarch's house for family gossip, news, fun and good times.  As often is the case, everyone bring some sort of dish they made themselves.  This recipe makes a great side dish to bring.  It's a soul food dish that will linger in their memories.
